Are gas masks filters safe?

after the filter has been used, can i still wear it for looks? or could it kill me?Are gas masks filters safe?
Wow a question about my job....

Anywhos, if the canister has just been exposed to CS or any other riot control agent, wear it all you want. If it has been exposed to VX, G, blister, etc. agents you won't be able to keep it anyways.

The canister just absorbs the agent, it doesn't neutralize it. Once you get to your unit they will have TONS of training canisters that I'm sure they will have no problem giving you. Hell you can buy them on E-bay, just look for C2 or C2A1 canisters. Are gas masks filters safe?
All depends on who used it and for what. I wouldn't be using NBC (Nuclear, Biological, Chemical) guru's crap. God knows what's on it. If it was just used for tear gas, have at it. Wouldn't recommend it though. If you have no idea what it was used for, rule of thumb is if you don't know, don't touch it.
Your NBC officer will tell you what you can and can't do with your protective mask and filters. There has not been a chemical attack on US forces since WWI. Well other than spraying Agent Orange on our own troops in Vietnam.
NO.
