Expired C2 gas mask filter - is it safe?

I recently bought an M40 gas mask for a costume and it came with an expired C2 type canister. The printed manufacture date shows it was made in 1992. I read that these have some form of chromium that is considered dangerous, which is why the military doesn't use them. My question is if the canister is safe to breath through at all. Is it dangerous to use it just for a costume?Expired C2 gas mask filter - is it safe?
Wow a M40....for holloween :P what a waste i am a collector and the M40 gas mask Filter if Expired will not harm you how ever it wont protect you if its expired it would be pointless to have. btw you need to get use to Breathing with the Mask on because there is Air ressistance Due to the mask, so it not a good Holloween mask I WOULD RECOMEND THE GP-5 (a Russian Soviet Made mask) it cost about 10 dollors off ebay and its ez to breath with but still looks realy scaryExpired C2 gas mask filter - is it safe?
