How do i make a hollow mask out of paper mache?????

yea i'm trying to make a half hollow mask out of paper mache and

and its gonna be my first time making something out of paper mache

if anyone could help me with materials and how to make a regular mask that would be coolHow do i make a hollow mask out of paper mache?????
I have made many paper mache and the simplest recipe for mache is glue, water, and cornstarch or flour. To make your mask, I suggest using a balloon. Mache half the balloon, then let it dry totally. After it has dried, you can pop the balloon and you are left with half a mask. I suggest using at least 10 layers of mache so the mask will be thick. I also find it easier to rip the newspaper in smaller pieces so you won't get as many parts that stick up. After you finish mache-ing, you can paint it whatever color you like.

Good Luck! How do i make a hollow mask out of paper mache?????

Hi,I agree with maddy. But you can also get some screen at a hardware store and bend it in the shape you want and then paper mache over the screen .good luck

PS make sure you buy the stiffer screen.
1. blow up a balloon so it is slightly bigger than your head.

2. mix up a papier mache paste of elmer's glue and water -- so it's soupy but not too thin, put it in a bowl or baking dish, something kind of shallow and wide.

3. tear newspaper with the grain (if you tear it one direction, it will tear easily into strips, the other way it comes out all garbly...choose the direction that produces strips) tear a lot, make a big pile...actually, a couple piles with one pile of longish strips, another smaller, etc.

4. lay out newspaper to protect your work area.

5. dip the strips of paper in the mache paste and smooth it over your balloon. Another option, is to rub the paste on the balloon, lay the paper strips on it, then rub more paste over that.

6. do it so it's 3 or 4 layers thick, then let it dry. either hang it up or lay it on saran wrap.

7. after it is dry, do another set of layers. repeat this process, letting it dry in between, until it is of a thickness that suits your needs.

8. when you are finished and the piece is dry, pop the balloon and remove it.

9. To create forms on the mask, use balled up newspaper and masking tape, then do a layer of mache over that.

10. use a craft knife to cut out a breathing hole and eyes, as well as two small holes to attach ribbon to hold the mask on your face

11. cover the whole thing with a layer of gesso or plain white paint.

12. paint, decorate, enjoy!
