I have just bought a loki mask from ebay, it is one sided, is there away to cut the plaster off from the back?

I bought it from the haunted studios copllection, i saw a video of a guy with one but the back was cut off and made double sided, i want to do it but i need a way to do it so it doesnt break the mask.I have just bought a loki mask from ebay, it is one sided, is there away to cut the plaster off from the back?
The way you say that, you seem to think it is a real mask with plaster inside when it almost certainly unreinforced plaster all the way through painted on the visible side. Thin plaster is very weak and brittle. Answer #1 gives a possible technique, but if you have no experience casting with plaster, you would probably be better off painting with latex molding compound, peeling that off, putting it back, and backing with plaster because the latex is so flexible.I have just bought a loki mask from ebay, it is one sided, is there away to cut the plaster off from the back?
Maybe you should consider doing a casting from it and then using that to make a copy in something lighter and stronger like paper mache or something.

Sure you could carve the back out with wood gouges or something like that but then you just have a heavy and fragile plaster mask.

Check to make sure there are no draw points that would interfere with pulling it out of a mold and then use plaster of Paris to make a cast of it.

You will need to coat it with some form release, (pam cooking oil spray? Spray wax? vaseline?)

After your mold has set you can pull your mask out of it and now you have a negative mold you can line with mache or a similar material.

After the mache sets you pull it from your new mold, paint it with acrylics and you got it.
